Procedure of driver's actions in case of accident outside Ukraine
1. Stop the vehicle and stay at the accident site.
Do not change the position of the vehicle under any circumstances.
2. Call the police.
Obtain a copy of the report or any other document that establishes fault, identifies the participants and the circumstances of the accident (it is advisable to take photos or videos of the vehicles involved in the accident from different angles and of other objects involved in the accident). If none of the accident parties speaks the language of the country where the accident occurred, you should call the Motor Bureau (an organization established to control the activities of insurers) of the country where the accident occurred (phone numbers are on the back of the Green Card policy).
3. If you are required to sign a document
If you are required to sign a document in which the fault of the parties involved in the accident is stated in a language that you do not understand, you must state "I do not understand the language", "I do not consider myself guilty" or "I do not agree". If you have one or more witnesses on your side, it is advisable to write their name, address and telephone number on the document and have them sign it.
4.1 When establishing your guilt in an accident outside Ukraine.
You need to give the second copy (copy) of the Green Card policy to the victim. In the document proving the occurrence of the insured event, you should indicate the number and validity period of the Green Card policy.
If there is more than one case when the second copy is torn off from the original, it is necessary to make a photocopy of the original and give it to the injured party. If it is not possible to make a photocopy of the policy, the document proving the existence of the insured event must contain the data of your Green Card policy, while you keep the original.
Victims are entitled to compensation for each insured event during the term of the policy. There is no limit on the amount of compensation under the Green Card policy.
4.2 You are the victim of an accident abroad.
Write down all the details of the other party to the accident: name, surname, car number and make, insurance policy number, name and address of the insurance company with which he/she is insured. If possible, take a photo of the driver's license, technical passport and insurance policy of the person responsible for the accident.
5. Report the accident to the insurance company by calling the phone number listed on the insurance policy.
In addition to the Green Card Insurance, it is worth taking out a CASCO policy to be protected from any kind of inconvenience and financial expenses.
Accident perpetrator without insurance - what should the victim do?
Accident without insurance - what to do with the victim Sad statistic: About half of the car owners do not consider it necessary to take out an insurance policy. This is despite the fact that the law makes it illegal to drive a vehicle without MTPL insurance. Violating the law seems to be advantageous for drivers: the fine is often less than the cost of insurance. But what should the victim do if the person who caused the accident has no insurance and refuses to pay? Who will pay for the damage? How an insurance policy works If the owner of a car with a formalized MTPL becomes the culprit of the accident, the policy covers payments to the injured party. If the person who caused the accident has no insurance, there will be no one to compensate for the damage. What can you do? However, according to the law, the perpetrator of the accident is still obliged to take responsibility. It is necessary to pay for the repair of the victim's car, a fine for lack of insurance…
