CASCO: Fraud with contracts
It is not uncommon to encounter situations in which from the insurance company with which an automobile collision insurance contract has been concluded attempts to obtain payment illegally. Let's look at the most common cases.
TOP-5 Illegal methods of enrichment in motor hull insurance
Unscrupulous policyholders come up with many different ways to outsmart the insurance company and illegally enrich themselves. But for each method of fraud, the insurer has its own countermeasure.
Double car insurance
Fraudsters use this method when the car is already damaged at the time of insurance. Then they find a car of the same make and color and come to insure it with the documents of the damaged car, hoping that the body and chassis number will not be checked. However, when concluding a car insurance contract, an employee of the insurance company is obliged to check the data of the car recorded in the documents with the actual data.
Replacement of a drunk driver
If a drunk driver causes an accident with a car covered by motor hull insurance, he sometimes tries to "replace" him with a sober driver by calling a friend.
With modern video recording methods, the insurance company is able to verify all the facts related to the accident on the road. The age of digitalization makes it possible. It is also not uncommon for eyewitnesses to record information about what happened. Therefore, it is easy to identify a substitute driver.
Staging a traffic accident or incident
Sometimes people try to make money off of insurance and the insurance company. One of the methods is to pay the person responsible for the accident on the spot and then call the emergency commissioner with a request to register the damage to the car caused by unknown persons.
Video cameras on roads or in parking lots, shops, banks, or car DVRs in the vicinity can help solve this type of scam. Witnesses to an accident may also be helpful.
Overpriced car insurance
Criminals try to insure a car with purchase documents that show an inflated value. This situation is possible if the insured has created fictitious purchase documents that indicate an extended configuration instead of a non-existent one. By the way, such equipment for this car may not even exist in nature.
The insurance company has data on all existing makes and models of cars, their equipment and costs. Therefore, when drawing up a CASCO contract, information on the real value of the car is verified. In addition, the collision insurance contract states that the car is insured for its real value. And when an insured event occurs, this information is checked first.
Reprogramming keys in case of car theft
The requirement of the insurance company is to hand over all sets of keys to the insurer's representatives after the car theft is reported. There are usually two copies.
Intending to report their car as stolen, the owners make an additional set of keys, explaining that the "original" ones are defective. Then the plan is simple: drive your car as far as possible (or give the new set of keys to the thief), report the theft and give the two sets of keys to the insurer. You say nothing about the extra set of keys.
The fact that an additional set of keys has been made for the car can be seen in the car's electronic system. Insurance companies also have contacts with car dealers who are often asked to make a duplicate set of keys. Another way to find out about a fraud is to get information from the manufacturer, which the insurance company has the right to request.
Procedure of the driver in case of accident outside Ukraine
1. Stop the vehicle and stay at the accident site. Do not change the position of the vehicle under any circumstances. 2. Call the police. Obtain a copy of the report or any other document that establishes fault, identifies the participants and the circumstances of the accident (it is advisable to take photos or videos of the vehicles involved in the accident from different angles and of other objects involved in the accident). If none of the accident parties speaks the language of the country where the accident occurred, you should call the Motor Bureau (an organization established to control the activities of insurers) of the country where the accident occurred (phone numbers are on the back of the Green Card policy). 3. If you are required to sign a document If you are required to sign a document in which the fault of the parties involved in the accident is stated in a language that you do not understand…
Accident perpetrator without insurance - what should the victim do?
Accident without insurance - what to do with the victim Sad statistic: About half of the car owners do not consider it necessary to take out an insurance policy. But what should the victim do if the person who caused the accident has no insurance and refuses to pay? Who will pay for the damage? How an insurance policy works If the owner of a car with a formalized MTPL becomes the culprit of the accident, the policy covers payments to the injured…
